Vivian was born in Popejoy, Iowa. She later moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she met Hans Appell and they were happily married until his death in 1982. She was employed with Younkers Department Store for many years, both in sales and in the office. Vivien was a member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church.
She always loved spending time with her family, especially traveling together and the many camping trips during which so many wonderful memories were made. She also enjoyed sewing, working with ceramics and making beautiful quilts.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Norman Appell and JoAnn Swallin; Eight grandchildren, Tim and wife Mary Swallin, Tom and wife Kim Swallin, Cheryl Swallin, Lorrie Appell,Norm Appell, Art Appell, David and wife Stacy Appell. She also had several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
