On the Main Line, Mt. Zion AME has been the only African American church of any denomination with a cemetery. The last person buried here was Molly Hopkins in 1952. Among those at rest: church founders, members and family of members of the church. There are 18 named & two unknown Civil War Veterans interred in one of the largest groups of Colored Troops buried in a church cemetery in the area. In 1894, it was reported in a local newspaper that at the annual memorial service at our cemetery, "Fully 1,000 persons were present to witness this memorial service."
