Irving Furtick for many years resident of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. C. Hoefer, 2715 Millwood Avenue, yesterday at 1 o'clock, after an illness of about three months.
The funeral services will be held from the house this afternoon at 3 o'clock with interment in Elmwood Cemetery. The services will be read at the grave by the Rev. C. A. Freed of the Lutheran Church, and the services at the house will be participated in only by the members of the immediate family Mr. Furtick was 70 years of age at the time of his death and was well known throughout the city. For several years he was engaged in the retailed trade in this city and for a number of years immediately preceding his death operated a wholesale dry goods house in partnership with his son of this city. Mr. Furtick entered the War Between the Sections as a volunteer at the age of 14 and served until its conclusion.
The greater part of Mr. Furtick's life was spent in this city, where he was surrounded by numbers of friends who, with the family mourn his death.
Always active in anything that tended to uplift his city and interested in anything that was a connection with the church or its activities, many hearts will be saddened by the sorrowful news.
Mr. Furtick is survived by his widow who was Miss Frances Williams of Aiken County, and one son and three daughters as follows, W. F. Furtick 1630 College Street of Columbia, Mrs. F. C. Hoefer 2715 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, Mrs. L. KL. Etheridge of North, S. C., Mrs. T. J. Walker of Shandon.
Pallbearers will be David King, O. G. Still, J. Q. Sharpe, W. L. Jumper, Frank Robinson and R. L. Patterson.
