Harry owned a stream threshing machine and every fall went around the county threashing grain for people. He was a member of the 7th District schoolhouse and served as chairman from the school terms of 1934-1939. Harry and his wife Ada Bella (Crook) Bemis had 7 girls and 2 boys: Bernice, Grace, Evelyn, Vivian, Harriet, Ardis, Corine, Leo and Lynn.

The following information was taken from an obituary article that family members had saved. The name and date of the newspaper are unknown.

The Estes Brook community was shocked to hear of the death of Harry Leroy Bemis, pioneer resident of that community, which occurred at the St. Cloud hospital early Monday morning of pneumonia. Mr. Bemis was taken to the St. Cloud hospital last Sunday in a critial condition from pneumonia, and the end came at about 4:30am Monday.

Harry Leroy Bemis was born in Greenbush township, Mille Lacs county on November 12, 1881, growing to manhood there. On December 1, 1902 he was united in marriage to Ade Belle Crook. They made their home on a farm in the Estes Brooks community where he spent most of his life, a period of 61 years. To this union nine children were born, two sons and seven daughters as follows: Mrs. Newman and Mrs. Wiler of Independence, Mo; Mrs. Clark of Minneapolis; Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Egge of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs Tidd, of Milaca; Harriet, Leo and Lynn at home. Three brothers Ray of Sumner Washington; Gene of Willmar and Al of Oak Park; and one sister, Mrs. C.F. Crook of Park Rapids, also survives.
The funeral service will be at the Estes Brook Methodist church on Friday, February 19 at 2:00pm with Rev. Shattuck officiating. Burial will be in the Milo Cemetery.
