Sheldon L. Benton, 84, Claysburg, passed away Sunday at Valley View Home.
He was born in Pavia, son of the late Harry and Alma (Whysong) Benton. He married Mary C. Benton on April 16, 1954. She passed away Jan. 10, 1983. He then married Twila (Miller) Kling on Oct. 13, 1990, in Claysburg.
Surviving are his wife, Twila, of Claysburg; two sons: Sheldon Keith Benton of Everett and Bryan Benton of Claysburg; a daughter, Trudy McIntyre of Pleasantville; two stepdaughters: Marsha Clark of Dyer, Ind., and Kristine Weyant of Kent, Ohio; six grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and three sisters: Norma Ritchey of Claysburg, Florene Cox of Queen and Viola Feathers of Imler.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Sherman, Leland and Rayford Benton; and three sisters: Alda Benton, Shirley Dively and Ora Imler.
Sheldon was a member of Claysburg Bible Church, Imler. He retired as a mechanic from Somerset Mack Sales & Service in 1985 and also worked at Zeigler Chevrolet and several other places.
He enjoyed horses, hunting and farming.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Claysburg Bible Church, Imler, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, with Pastor Keith Showalter officiating.
Interment will be in Upper Claar Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Claysburg Area Public Library. Arrangements are by Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg.
