Harry Leland Benton, 75, Box 737, Claysburg RD 1, died Sunday, July 6, 1997, at home.

He was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Queen, the son of the late Harry Lloyd and Alma (Whysong) Benton. He married Shirley Wertz July 4, 1917.

Mr. Benton retired from Interstate Trucking Co. and had worked at General Refractories for a number of years.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife; three sons; Larry and Donald, both of Claysburg, and Harry Jr. in Colorado; five daughters: Ora J. Coppersmith and Carla, both of Claysburg, Beverly Crist and Bonita Colledge, both of Queen, and Cheryl Gill in Virginia; two brothers: Sherman and Sheldon, both of Claysburg, five sisters: Norma Ritchey of East Freedom, Shirley Dively, Ora Imler and Floss Cox, all of Claysburg, and Viola Feathers of Imler; 14 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter.

Friends will be received form 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, Pleasantville.

Funeral services for Harry L. Benton of Claysburg RD 1, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Edward Blackburn Funeral Home, Pleasantville, by Rev. Barry Neal. Interment at Greenfield Cemetery, Bedford County. Military graveside rite by Claysburg Honor Guard. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
