John Hosea Leddy, 83, was born Feb. 18, 1906 on the family homestead near the South Canadian River and passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 1989 in the Elk City Community Hospital.
Hosea, the son of Alpha T. and Lida Weeks Leddy, grew up on the farm and attended school at Five Star, 2 miles east of their home.
He worked at the Strong City Cotton Gin in 1929 before returning to the family farm. Hosea farmed and cared for his mother and younger brother Raymond for a number of years.
On March 23, 1945 he married Deltha Mae Young in Sayre. She passed away Feb. 25, 1966.
On March 27, 1969, he was married to Lena Hay Weeks, they continued to live on the family farm.
He became a member of the Magnolia Baptist Church in Nov. 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, 2 sisters Nona Hill and Vida Archer and 1 brother Raymond Leddy.
He is survived by one son, a daughter-in-law, Gary and Marilyn Leddy; 3 grandchildren Marlin, Jason and Brian all of Cheyenne; step-daughter and husband Pauline and Zane Beebe of Amarillo, TX; sisters, Minnie Hillman and Seaneth Walker of Roll, OK; 3 brothers Ollie Leddy of Sayre; Loyd Leddy of CA and A.T. Leddy of Cheyenne and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 24, 1989 at 2 p.m. in the Magnolia Baptist Church with A.L. Martin and Tom Woodson officiating. Interment followed in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Ok with Rose Chapel Funeral service of Cheyenne in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were: Kenneth Leddy, Gerald Hillman, Charles Walker, Ronnie Walker, Stoney Lacey and J.E. Merritt. Honorary Pallbearers were: Gordon Smith, Fred Cobb, Frank Hubbard, Clyde Denney, Steve Schmidt, Jess Lovett, Hoover Jones and LaFayette McClellan.
