Rites today for Claude Lawler, Retired Boone School Teacher
Interment in the I00F Cemetery at Jamestown followed Funeral services at 1:30 p.m. today at the Russell and Hitch funeral home for Claude G. Lawler, 1317 Park Drive, who was found dead Friday evening at his home. Death, due to heart attack was set at some time Thursday.
Rev. Richard Dawes Akers officiated for the services and Masonic Graveside rites were held.
Mr. Lawler who was 82 years old, had taught school for 51 years and was principal of Jamestown and Advance schools before his retirement.
He was a graduate of Danville Normal College where he also taught for some time. He received his Masters Degree from Wisconsin and taught in many other schools before returning to Boone county.
He was a 50 year Mason holding membership in the Lodge at Jamestown where he also was a member of the Methodist Church.
Born in Boone County July 7, 1886 he was the son of Cornelius and Caroline (Trotter) Lawler. He was married March 16, 1907 at Danville, Illinois to Effie Katherine Woods who survives. Mrs. Lawler was found ill at the same time and was taken to Witham Hospital, where she is listed in fair condition.
Surviving in addition to the widow are a son Elbert H. Lawler of Michigan City; a brother Arthur Lawler of Jamestown; one granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Moffett of St. Charles, IL and three great-grandsons. Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.
