Harvey Boutain, 86, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls.
Services will be held at 7:00 PM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls with Deacon John Bruggeman Officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Catholic Cemetery in Menahga.
Visitation will be held on Saturday starting at 5:00 PM until the time of service at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.
Harvey Boutain was born September 1, 1925 son of the late Eli and Annie (Landa) Boutain at Dorothy, MN. He was raised there and attended school at Woodland District 17 School. In the late 1940s and early 1950s Harvey did seasonal work in the potato fields and at the beet factory. At the same time helped on the family farm. He then served in the Merchant Marines on the Coast Guard Ships in 1955 and sailed on all of the great lakes. In 1956 he moved to Alaska and worked on Barder Island 500 miles off the coast of Alaska building an early warning system for the US Government. The fall of 1956 he moved back to Minnesota and worked for Valleywood Preservers as a power pole inspector in Minnesota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Montana. In 1968 he bought the Liquor Store in Taylor, ND.
On June 5, 1964 he was united in marriage to Jill Saumer in Watson, MN. They continued to run the liquor store and Harvey also worked construction on the road. Harvey and Jill divorced in 1976. Harvey sold his business in 1979 and continued to work as a city employee doing maintenance, worked at the elevator during harvest and also at the water treatment plant. Harvey moved to Menagha in 1979 and to Red Lake Falls in December 2010.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and had a special friend Amanda Oss and daughter Mae and her children. He was a member of the Lions club in Taylor and an active member of the NRA.
Harvey is survived by his sister, Lucille Starken of Chisholm, MN, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews, step-son, Art Marsala of Missouri and step-daughter Theresa Marsala of Montana.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Annie, and brothers and sisters: Emil Boutain, Elmer Boutain, Mamie Meyer, Herman Boutain, Edward Boutain, Madeline Molskness, Andrew Boutain, Willard Boutain, Ralph Boutain, Elsie Wolner, Dale Boutain, Ray Boutain.
