Julius Schmidt, 70, Litchfield, died Wednesday evening at Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo, after a brief illness. Born July 22, 1911, in Springport, he was the son of Emma (Rosenau) and Emil Schmidt. He married Mary Landeryou in 1938. They were divorced in 1960. He married Clara Holbrooke in 1960. He was a retiree of Corning Glass Works, a 15 year resident of Litchfield and a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Homer. Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife Clara; three sons, Wesley L., John R. and Harold W., all of Marshall; three daughters, Arlene Norman, Grand Rapids, Joyce Bethke, Marshall, Mrs. William (Altha) Cole, Olivet; 13 grandchildren; three brothers, Walter, Herebert, and George, all of Springport; two sisters, Irene Taylor, Jackson, Marge Bahr, Springport; three stepsons, Hubert Holbrooke, Hebert Holbrooke, Herbert Holbrooke, all of Homer; two stepdaughters, Wildeon Holbrooke, Tekonsha, Christine Cronk, Homer; 26 stepgrandchildren. Friends may call at the George White Funeral Home, Litchfield from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will be at Whig Center Cemetery.
