Briton West, Sr. was one of twenty children of Willis West, Rev War Soldier NC. His mother was the second wife Silvey Harmon. Briton married Mary Ann L. Word in 1831 Fayette County, GA and they had 14 children,two infants died young. Named in his will recorded Will Book A Fayette County, GA: Jane Morgan, Joseph West, Mary Ann E. Burt, Lloyd West, John H. West, Francis Norton, Martha Smith-(dau who had married James Madison Smith 11 Oct 1866 Fayette Co, GA) Nathaniel West, Thomas West and Briton Andrew Jr.

Two sons not named in the will: Willis Harmon West and William West - Willis Harmon West named his last son, John Word West, presumably using the maiden name of his mother and he is named as son In A History of Clayton County, GA 1821 -1983 pg 538; and William West had an arm shot off, and he inherited 100 acres of land, double portion of the other children of Britton West, Sr. Source: A Hisory of Clayton County, GA 1821-1983, pg. 540.

Son Briton Andrew West died 1881 prior to date of will 23 Feb 1892, his part went to his sons Victor West and Windem West.

In his will Briton West set aside an acre of land as a burying ground in land lot no. 221 for the Briton West Cemetery which is known as the Little Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery on Westbridge Road in Fayette County, GA.
