Mr. Vernon Edward Ambush Sr., 76, of Park Mills Road, Adamstown, died Thursday, April 17, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Ada Eadie Layer Ambush, who died Nov. 3, 1986.

Born Dec. 24, 1926, in Frederick, he was a son of the late John Philmore and Mary Lillian Onley Ambush.

Mr. Ambush retired as a heavy equipment operator for Cherry Hill Construction Co.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Ambush was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church of Della.

Surviving are five children, Lana Brown and husband Gerald Sr. of Upper Marlboro, Mary Evans of Baltimore, Vernon Ambush Jr. and wife Patricia of Cheverly, Shirley V. Ambush of Upper Marlboro, and Kevin Ambush and wife Carolyn of Miramar, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Gerald Brown Jr., Danelle Williams, Sean, Shannon and Whitney Ambush, and Marqus and Adrienne Ambush; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, Maurice Floyd and Leo Ambush, both of Dickerson, Linward Ambush of Adamstown, and John Leon Ambush of Baltimore; one sister-in-law, Mildred Onley; two brothers-in-law, Addison and David Layer; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Thelphs A. Evans III.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert H. Ambush will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
