Mr. Maurice Floyd Ambush, 89, of Dickerson, was called into eternal rest on Thursday, July 3, 2014. He was the devoted husband of Shirley Johnson Ambush for 66 years. Born on May 11, 1925, in Della, he was a son of the late John Philmore Ambush and Mary Onley Ambush. They had 16 children and Floyd was their eighth child. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Floyd or Uncle Floydie (as he was affectionately called) was a very hardworking individual and great provider for his family. He worked in the construction industry for most of his adult life and retired from the Capitol Pipe Plant in 1989. He was a devoted, committed, and faithful life-time member of Saint Paul AME Church and served on many Church committees over the years. He enjoyed working in the Church and was proud of his service and upkeep of the Church. He liked to share stories about growing up in a very rural Frederick County and would share his life lessons to the younger generations. He always had a story to share and he touched the lives of everyone he met.

He was the loving father of Carolann Wright of Frederick; Lois Boyd and husband, Howard, of Fort Washington; Pamela Burris and husband, Harold, of Baltimore; and Allen and wife, Debra, of Ijamsville. He was the proud grandfather of Christopher Wright and wife, Vondalier, of Knoxville, TN; Carrie Artis and husband, Christopher, of Frederick; Michele Wright of Windsor Mills; Malcom Ambush of Frederick; Clarence Boyd and Sharlita Boyd of Fort Washington. He was the caring great grandfather (who always had candy) to Jecha, Jerah and Jata Wright and Kai, Kendall, and Christopher Artis. He is also survived by two brothers, Leo Ambush and John Ambush; three sisters-in-law, Thelma Ambush, Betty Ambush; and Loretta Cooper; one aunt, Catherine Weedon; god child, Atlee Harris, Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Janice Ambush; son-in-law, George Wright; seven brothers and six sisters.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church, 5609 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD. Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m., the family will receive friends at 10 a.m., and the funeral will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Ronald P. Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Saint Paul AME Church, 6750 Ed Sears Road, Dickerson, MD.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Saint Paul AME Church, 6750 Ed Sears Road, Dickerson, MD 20842. Online condolences may be shared at www.garylrollinsfuneralhome.com.
