Benny was the son of Joe Vaculik and Eva Fiedler Vaculik. He was one of 11 children born into that family in rural Fayette County, Texas, near Engle. Benny's family was part of the Praha Catholic Church in that farming community. When Benny was 19 years old he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for two years. After his military service, he moved to Sugar Land, Texas, where he went to work for Imperial Sugar Company, working in the Power Plant. In May of 1953, he married Pansy Jane Klechka in Sugar Land. Benny and Pansy had two sons, Sandy and Bobby.
