William Paul Vaculik was born in rural Fayette County, Texas, in 1915, the son of Josef Vaculik and Eva Fiedler Vaculik. His family, mother, father and 11 children, was part of the Praha Catholic Church Community. Known also as "Willie" and "Bill", he and his siblings attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Praha. Three of his siblings did not live to adulthood.

World War II began in December 1941. In January of 1942 Bill was drafted. He served for the duration of the war, 3 years and 9 months. The war ended in September 1945. He was released from military service in October of that year. During his tour of duty, he was engaged in battle with the Allied forces moving across France to defeat Hitler's army. He had two brothers also fighting in that war. His brother Jerry was killed in action in France. A younger brother Benny also entered the service before the war was over.

After the war, Bill moved to Sugar Land, Texas, where he was employed by Imperial Sugar in the machine shop.

In August of 1950, Bill married Mildred Thomas Walker. They, along with Mildred's two daughters Patsy and Brenda, lived in Sugar Land for the remainder of Bill's life. He passed away in December of 1976, at the age of 61, just a few weeks before his scheduled retirement from Imperial Sugar. He was dearly loved by all of his family, especially his grandchildren.
