Obituary of Gilbert Glass:
Glass - At his residence in Osage County, Kansas on Dec. 3rd, 1877, of asthma, Gilbert Glass.
The deceased was born in Spencer County, Kentucky December 27th, 1803. He united with the Big Spring Presbyterian Church when quite a young man; was over thirty years a ruling elder in that church. In 1869 he moved to Kansas and brought his religion with him. He had preaching at his house before any school or church was built in this region. When the Rock Creek (N. P.) church was organized, he united with it, and was chosen ruling elder. And when that church became Presbyterian in 1874, he retained the office of ruling elder most acceptably until the day of his death. His life was a living, and his death a dying testimony to the truth of the promises of God in his Holy Word. "My Grace is sufficient for thee." "I will not fail nor forsake thee." As he passed through the valley of the shadow of death he feared no evil, as the Lord was with him, and his rod and his staff comforted him.
He was one of the most exemplary Christians I ever knew. A man of unbounded faith and deep humility, wise in counsel, and wonderful in working for the kingdom of Christ, ever interested in increasing God's glory, and the salvation of sinners. He fulfilled the Bible requirements of a ruling elder: "One that ruleth well in his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity." He lived to see all his children members of the Presbyterian Church (the youngest nine years old). He was a loving husband, a tender and affectionate father, and a sympathizing friend to all in trouble. His death is an irreparable loss to the church and the whole community. He leaves a wife and fourteen children, (ten sons and four daughters) to mourn his loss. One of his sons, Rev. H. Glass, is pastor of a Presbyterian church in Mercer County, Kentucky.

He married Lucinda Mathis 6 Aug 1846 in Spencer County, Kentucky.
