Caroline "Lena" was born on a farm 5 miles south of Lowden, IA. She was the only girl in a family of 8 brothers. In 1900, she married Fred Wilhelm Butterbrodt in Lowden and moved to the Butterbrodt Family Farm in Tipton that Fred purchased in Nov 1898. Fred & Lena had 4 children: Irwin H. (b: 24 Dec 1901, d: 12 Dec 1955), Alma L. (b: 16 Apr 1904, d: 31 Aug 1987), Milda (b: 07 May 1908, d: 1993), and Harlan Fredrick (b: 06 Aug 1914, d: 01 Feb 2000). Lena was a wonderful cook, mother & wife. Lena & Fred farmed until 1939, when they retired & moved into a house in Tipton. Harlan purchased the Butterbrodt farm from his brother/sisters and continued farming until his death in 2000. Lena died at age 72. A funeral was held at 1:00pm on the farm, followed by 2:00pm services at Peace Evangelical & Reformed Church in Bennett.
