Clarence Barthel was born May 24, 1916, in St. Martin to Henry and Elizabeth (Traut) Barthel. He married Elfrieda C. Sis Oct. 25, 1941, in St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. He was a longtime resident of Sauk Rapids and was employed by Franklin Manufacturing for 29 years, retiring in 1978. He also was employed for 14 years as an elevator operator at the Medical Arts Building in St. Cloud. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Machinist Union Local 623.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters, Edwin, Anita Rooney, Jerry, Vern, Judy and Leon, Sauk Rapids; Alvin, Willmar; brother, Raymond, St. Cloud; sisters, Lucille Wruck, Mayhew Lake; Alice Nierengarten, St. Cloud; Marie Schafer, Avon; Lorraine Gresser, Maple Grove; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James; sister, Irene Schmitz; infant sister, Bernelda; brother, Celestine; and one granddaughter.
