Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 PM Tuesday November 23, 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, St. Cloud for Alice R. Nierengarten, age 87, of St. Cloud who died Sunday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Scott Pogatchnik will officiate and burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Sauk Rapids. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday (Today) at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church in St. Cloud. Christian Women will pray at 4:30PM followed by Parish prayers at 6:00 PM at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.

Alice was born July 30, 1923 in St. Martin, MN, to Henry and Elizabeth (Traut) Barthel. She married Carl Nierengarten on November 21, 1942, in West Palm Beach, FL. Alice was a lifelong resident of St. Cloud and most recently of Country Manor Campus in Sartell. She was a homemaker and also worked at Ameripride. Alice was a member of St. Augustine Christian Women, St. Cloud East Side VFW Post 4847 Auxiliary, St. Cloud Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 Auxiliary, and RSVP volunteer.

Alice led a full and active life, surrounded by good friends and family. She was as much at home on a dance floor as she was on a golf course. When she wasn't traveling, she was wrapped around a crossword puzzle or in the thick of a card game with friends. She will be fondly remembered for her work with the church and with anyone in need that she could reach out to.
Survivors include her children, Carol Nierengarten of St. Cloud, Jane Kitchar of Elkhart, IN, Sharon Nierengarten of St. Cloud, Dennis Nierengarten of Clearwater, Gary (Carol) Nierengarten of St. Cloud; son-in-law, John Fogarty of Northfield; sister, Lorraine Gresser of Maple Grove; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl on June 15, 1977; daughter, Mary Fogarty (2009); brothers and sisters, Clarence, Celestine, Bernelda, and Ray Barthel, Lucille Wruck, Marie Schaefer, and Irene Schmitz; and special friend and late life companion, Lee Kapsner.
