OBIT MRS. LAURA [Breckenridge] WHITEMAN from Sedalia Democrat
Mrs. Laura Breckenridge Whiteman, 76 years old. widow of John Clinton Whiteman, died Monday night at the Bothwell hospital. Mrs. Whiteman was born January 11, 1867 in Bellmore, Ind., the daughter of the late James William and Hannah [Wright] Breckenridge and with her parents moved, [by covered wagon], in the fall of 1880 to Missouri, settling in Hickory Co near Wheatland. [Moved to the "Holland Farm" in Henry Co, MO in the spring of 1881.]
She was married December 2, 1888, to Mr. Whiteman at Brownington, Mo., and in this union eleven children were born, four of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Whiteman went to Henry Co in 1889 where they resided until March 4, 1907 when they moved to Pettis county. Mr. Whiteman preceded her in death on January 14, 1914.
Mrs. Whiteman united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Valdo on August 16, 1914. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. H. S. [Jewel Pauline] Carson, 1613 Vermont avenue. Surviving ar the following children: Mrs. W. P. [Beulah Fay] Wise, Mrs. William [Mildred Leora] rogers, john whiteman and Mrs. [Jewel Pauline] Carson, all of Sedalia, twenty grandchildren, six of whom are in service, eight great-grandchildren and also two brothers and four sisters: Miss [s/b Mr!] Alpha Breckenridge of Chico, Texas; Clarence Breckenridge, Millsite, MOnt., Mrs Eva Gooley [s/b Tooley!] of Auxvasse, Mrs. Maggie Taylor of Grandview, Mrs. Bertha Hanger and Mrs. Inez Hanger of Clinton. [Also surviving was youngest brother Nelson Lee Breckenridge of Hopkinton, Rhode Island but his whereabouts was unknown by the family at this time.] A grandson, Second Lieutenant George A. Whiteman, was the first Missouri boy [in the Army Air Corp] reported killed in the Japanese air attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
The body was taken to the Gillespie funeral home. Arrangements for the services will not be completed until word is received from relatives at a distance.

Laura and husband, John Clinton Whiteman, had 2 other infants that there is no grave info for: one who was either stillborn or at least died same day of birth (June 10, 1889) and one who lived 10 days (Jan 4-14, 1905)-neither was given a name. I had a nephew who developed blockage of the ureters at age of several months to a year old who required surgery to survive-makes you wonder if this might have been the problem with all these babies.
