Reverend Henry Rupert Rhynes, 84, formerly of the Taylor County area, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 in a Garland hospital. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 16th at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel in Merkel with Reverend Todd Keller officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15th at the funeral home.
Henry was born December 25, 1927 at Noodle, Jones County, Texas to Rupert Clarence and Texana Lois (Barnett) Rhynes. He married Joan Sonya Marshall August 31, 1957 in Brownwood. She preceded him in death August 27, 2000. Henry was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and received two bronze stars. He retired from the ministry after serving thirty-five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garland.
Survivors include three sons, Roy Rhynes of San Antonio, Keith Rhynes and wife Radonna of Garland, Jay Rhynes of Corpus Christi; daughter, Paula Wagner and husband Scott of San Antonio; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Theldon and Ray Rhynes; and two sisters, Louise Hallford and Marie Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Frank, Jimmy and Lee Rhynes; and a sister, Frances Stallo.
