Bailey, born about 1827-1828 in Pickens Co., SC died Sept. 10, 1854 per Bible records... in Benton County, Alabama which was renamed Calhoun Co., AL on Jan. 29, 1858.

Family legend states that Bailey was buried in Shiloh Cemetery, Highway 204 near Crystal Springs in Calhoun County. Shiloh has many unmarked graves and if Bailey's gravesite was marked by mountain rocks, etc., it is now unknown to this generation. In the 1990's Griffin descendants said that the tall leaning marker had always been said a Griffin was buried there and flowers were always put on that grave. This could have been Bailey since the grave is in front of William Monroe Griffin, his brother. But, perhaps the grave might be Benjamin, another brother.

Bailey was a son of Sargent Griffin and Avarilla Barton Griffin. Bailey and five brothers, William Monroe, Benjamin Franklin, Barton, Sargent, Jr., and Richard Harrison Griffin moved from SC into Benton County, Alabama by 1833. Bailey's other siblings were Elihu H. Griffin, an unnamed infant, Dorcas Griffin Alexander, Anderson Griffin, Thomas Griffin, Avarilla Griffin Anthony and Vashti Q. Griffin Mansell.

Bailey married Francis Lee, daughter of Ingram Lee and Juda Street Lee, on May 10, 1849 in Benton Co., AL. At his death, he left a young widow and three children, Joseph Griffin (1851-1947), Sargeant Jasper Griffin (1852-1942) and Avarilla Griffin (1854 -.
