Ellis. E. Bowers was born Sept. 2, 1903, in Lamont Missouri, the son of Charles E. and Alice M. Rank Bowers, and departed this life Feb. 13 1990, in Abilene, having attained the age of 86 years, 5 months and 11 days. He moved to Abilene with his parents at the age of 12, and attended the Abilene schools. He worked for the M. W. Gough Nursery, north of Eisenhower Park. On Sept. 20 1925, he was united in marriage with Iris G. Callahan in Salina, and they have made their home in Abilene since that time. She preceded him in death Dec. 3 1988. He worked for the Security Flour Mill, and in June 1933, he became the Park Superintendent for the City of Abilene. He retired in 1969. He attended the United Brethren in Christ Church. A kind and friendly man, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by four sons, Glenn, and his wife Donna, Gerald and his wife Floy, Abilene, Robert and his wife Gloria, Rohnert Park, Calif. and Jack, and his wife, Alvera North Salt Lake Utah, two daughters, Dorothy Smith, and her husband Newt, Astoria Oregon, and Marilyn Bowers Garden Grove Calif; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and other relatives. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services were held Feb. 17 1990 10:30 a.m. at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral home with the Rev. Earl Haggard officiating. Music was provided by Ada France at the organ, and Clarence France, who sang, "When They Ring Those Golden Bells." and Sondra Murnahan, who sang, "One Day at a Time." Burial was in the Abilene Cemetery with Lon Evers, Joe Zey, Raymond Noel, Jesse Hindman, Melven Gier, and Glen Rider serving as casketbearers. Card of Thanks We wish to express our sincere thanks for the many acts of kindness shown to us during the loss of our loved one. The beautiful flowers and the many cards of sympathy were greatly appreciated. the memorial contributions to the Abilene Senior Citizens Center, the United Brethren in Christ Church will be a lasting tribute to his memory. A special thanks to Rev. Haggard for the kind and comforting message at the service, and to Ada, Clarence, and Sondra for the beautiful music.
