Earl N. Bodurtha, 72, of 228 Mill St. died at his home Wednesday morning. He was born in Springfield Mov. 27, 1897 the son of Addison and Adeline (Dunham) Bodurtha. He was a direct descendant of Reice Bodurtha who settled in Springfield in 1645.
He was a veteran of World War I serving in the Navy. A charter member of American Legion Alfred T. Wood Post, he was also a past chancellor of Springfield Lodge Knights of Pythias, and a past deputy grand chancellor of Massachusetts. He was one of the founders of the Navy Club of Springfield.
Active in Republican politics during the 1930’s, he was a former president of the Young Men’s Republican Club of Springfield and past vice-president of the council of Republican Clubs of Massachusetts.
In 1936 he was named inspector for the License Commission by Mayor Henry Marterns. He was one of the founders and first business agent for the Western Massachusetts Café Owners Assoc. and was a tabulator for the Monarech Life Insurance Co, retiring in 1962. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a member of the Forest Park Men’s Club.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Hazel A. (White) Bodurtha, he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Florence E. Hartmann, Mrs. Phyllis M. Hannigan both of Springfield, and Mrs. Norma E. Bailey of Hazardville, Conn.; a brother Donald of Springfield; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at Dickinson-Streeter funeral home on Friday afternoon. The Rev/ Wilbur C. Ziegler will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
