The records of the St John–St James Lutheran Church in Reedsville WI show that Friedrich Wilhelm Carl, the first son and third child of C. Friedrich and Johanne Karolina Beyersdorf, nee Zahn, was born on Oct 2 and baptized on Oct 21, 1860 at the church. He was confirmed there on Palm Sunday, March 29, 1874. As is a common German custom, his calling name was Wilhelm and considered Friedrich his middle name.

Always known as William or Bill, he moved to Menominee MI at as a young man. On Jun 25, 1882 William married Albertine Antonie Kajeski. From the marriage record in the Menominee Courthouse, it states that William age 21, married Antonie Gajewski, age 18 and that he was a blacksmith.

They had their first child, Elsie, in 1883 and went on to have Arthur, William Jr, Alma, Anna, Leopold, George, Otto, Harry, and finally the twins Edna and Helen in 1897 -- eleven children in fourteen years.

The family lived in a large house on 12th Ave. in Menominee. Antonie died in 1913, and Alma took over the job of running the household for a few years. (Elsie had already married.) Many years later, when William became ill, Helen was called upon to care for him until his death.
