John "Big John" G. Aseltine, Sr. Charlotte John "Big John" G. Aseltine, Sr., 79, of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his home. John was born February 14, 1932 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Frank and June (Glover) Aseltine. He married his wife of 49 years, Phyllis I. (Ruthruff) Aseltine on January 29, 1954 in Lansing. She preceded him in death in November of 2003. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post #42 and the VFW Post #2406 of Charlotte. John and Phyllis owned and operated John Aseltine and Sons Trash Service in Charlotte for 20 years, retiring in 1992. He loved fishing and hunting up North with his wife at their cabin. John was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, and most enjoyed his time with his family. He is survived by his children, Cindy (Dennis) Stowell of Palo; two sons, John (Patty) Aseltine Jr. of Holt and Raymond (Lori) Aseltine of Charlotte; 8 grandchildren: B.J. and Kate Parrish, Shaunie Aseltine and Tyler Spitzer, Jennifer Dunavant and Dallas Aseltine, Leesa, Jennifer, and Christine Janz; 2 great-grandchildren, Makala Brzezinski and Damion Dunavant; siblings, Elmer Aseltine, Anna Sherwood, Lynn Aseltine and friend Jane, Ella (Paul) Evart, Allen (Annie) Aseltine, Don (Debbie) Aseltine; and many nieces and nephews. John is predeceased by his wife; sister Irene VanLiew; brother Cecil Aseltine; and sister-in-law Grace Aseltine. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012 with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
