His obituary read: "Thomas Perry Irwin, of 1018 East Reynolds street, died at 8 p,m, Thursday, April 20, 1944, at Memorial hospital, age 55 years. Survived by son, Pvt. Earl Irwin, U.S. Marines; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Wells and Evelyn Bankard, both of city; three brothers, Dr. J. R. and Newton, both of city; and Milton Irwin, Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Debby Brown, Cantrall; Mrs. Millie Hart, city; one granddaughter. Remains to Ellinger & Kunz funeral home."
