Charles Seifert Irwin was a son of Oscar Drunery Irwin and Minerva Jane Stevenson. The family always affectionately called him Seifert or Seif (pronounced Seef). It is believed that he was named in honor of Dr. Godlove Charles Seifert of Sangamon County, IL.

Seifert was married 1 Nov 1911 to Floy "Sis" Wells. They were the parents of three children: Arthur August, Cloyde Ernest "Kelsie"; and Lela Mae.

Seifert's wife, Floy, died in 1939. In the months that followed, Seifert was tortured with loneliness and became despondent. In his grief, he ended own life.

His obituary read: "Charles Swifert Irwin, of 614 North Fourteenth Street, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 1940, at residence, age 53 years. Survived by two sons, Arthur A. and Cloyd Irwin, both of city; daughter, Lelia May Irwin, city; four brothers, Dr. J. R. Irwin and Thomas P. Irwin both of city; Oscar M., Salisbury, and Newton P. Irwin, both of city; and two sisters, Mrs. Debora Brown, Cantrall, and Mrs. Millie Hart, city. Remains to Vancil funeral home where funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Lewis P. Fisher officiating. Burial in Salisbury cemetery."
