Hyman Eugene Durrett, the son of the late Otha Thomas Durrett and Lura Adis Milby Durrett, was born Wednesday, January 5, 1921 in Green County and departed this life on Sunday, February 2, 2003 in Summersville at his home, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was 82 years and 28 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Oak Forrest Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124, a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corp., a farmer, and was the former Summersville Postmaster for 18 years.
He united in marriage on February 28, 1948 to Hortense "Teenie" Milby who survives. To this union was born a daughter: Rhonda Durrett Parker of Campbellsville.
Also surviving are two grandchildren: Megan Adis Parker of San Francisco, California and Kailen Elizabeth Grace Parker of Campbellsville; two brothers: Rev. Ancil "Bug" Durrett and Calvin "Toad" Durrett both of Greensburg; a sister: Louise Durrett Hodges of Summersville and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services for Hyman Eugene Durrett, were conducted Wednesday, February 5, in the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in Green County Memory Gardens with military rites conducted. Rev. Don Bruington and Rev. Gene Hall officiated.
Active pallbearers were Mike Durrett, Bobby Durrett, Steve Durrett, Jimmy Durrett, Troy Durrett, Shannon Durrett, Doug Hodges and Coy Scott.
Honorary pallbeares were Pete Vaughn, Randall Joe Milby, Ronnie Bishop, Donald Durrett, Woodruff Vaughn, Timmy Jeffries, Ray Hall, Shively Mitchell, Tommy Milby and Charlie Hall.
