OBIT - Mr. Vurnis Rue "Dink" Durrett, son of the late Mr. Otha Durrett and Mrs. Lura Milby Durrett, was born September 2, 1935, in Green County and departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 1996, in the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was 60 years, 5 months and 16 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church.
He served in the United States Army.
He united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Ann Stearman on July 4, 1957, who survives. To this union was born one daughter Patricia Alice Durrett Horton of Summersville.
He is also survived by three brothers and one sister: Hyman Durrett, Bro. Ancil "Bug" Durrett, Calvin "Toad" Durrett and Louise Hodges all of Summersville; one grandson: Johnathan AndRue Pawley of Summersville; a father-in-law Leonard P Stearman of Greensburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services for Mr. Vurnis Rue "Dink" Durrett were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, in the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Wilson Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Tucker and Rev. Jerry Noe officiated.
Active pallbearers were: George Smith, Greg Whitlow, Harold McCubbin, Roger Moss, Donnie Williams and Clyde Whitlow.
Honorary pallbearers were: Roy McCubbin, Billy Ward, Donnie Vaughn, Bobby Rattliff, Timmy Jeffries, and Brooks Milby
