"Nellie" Lavelle was the 6th of 7 children born to Margaret "Maggie" (O'brien) and Patrick Lavelle.

She came with her family by railroad to Billings in 1882 and then on to Stillwater (later called Columbus) in 1885. Her family owned and operated the Lavelle Hotel for 15 years.


She never married and had no children. In later years she relocated to California and died there.
