Opal is the daughter of Granvil D. Leathers and Clista Ellen Pearson. Siblings include Hilda Lurie, Susie Ellen and Myrle Eileen. She married Frank Patterson Oct.25, 1924 In Washington,Iowa. He died Nov. 9,1974.
She attended Mahaska Co. grade school and graduated from Rosehill High School. They had 3 children, Donovan Duane, Roger Deane, and Leatrice Marjean. She lived in New London, Iowa all of her married life where she spent many hours in her beautiful flower and vegetable garden. In her earlier years she loved sewing and she loved her old Singer sewing machine and her sewing room in her basement.
Grandma Opal never learned to drive and either walked to town or rode her three wheeled bicycle. She was amazing!
She was cared for by her son Roger and daughter-in-law Claire while living at Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant,Iowa, where she passed peacefully from this life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
