A pioneer woman of many sterling
qualities passed away at 6:30 o'clock
this morning. She was Mrs. Lydia
Short, wife of Gideon H. Short, a civil
war veteran. Death, which occurred
at the family home, 1306 Elm street,
was the result of complications and
closed a useful life of seventy seven
years.

Deceased was born on October
3, 1830, In Sandusky, O., and came to
this city with her husband from Argus,
Ind., in 1889. She was a devout
and active member of the Bethany
Presbyterian church and was the devoted
mother of a large family.

Surviving, besides her husband, are five
children, as follows: J. C. Short, of
Pasadena, Cal.; R.V. Short, of Union
Mills, Ind.; F.A. Short, of Los Angeles,
Cal.; H.A. and T.E. Short, of
this city. Eight grandchildren also
survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday
morning at 10 o'clock from the
residence. Interment will be at Lindenwood.
