James Whited was a twin son of James and Hannah Whited. The family can be found in the 1850 Census for Washington Township, Starke County, Indiana. James was nine years old. He enrolled in the Union Army at the age of 21 on Sept. 18, 1861. His twin brother John muster in Aug. 27 1861 as a Private in the Indiana 29th Regiment Company I. John was captured at Chickamauga, Georgia Sept. 19, 1863 and died at the Andersonville Prison in Georgia Aug. 2, 1864 from diarrhea and is resting in the Andersonville National Cemetery. James was a Private in the 10 Regiment of Indiana, Company D. He died of typhoid fever at Plymouth, Indiana May 8, 1862 after being released from service.
