A native of Knox County, Tenn., he lived most of his life in Muncie. He retired from Ontario Corp. in 1967 after 45 years as a maintenance engineer.
Surviving are a son, Hubert L. Privett, Muncie; three daughters, Gladys (Mrs. Carroll) Smith, Silverlake, Betty (Mrs. Kenneth) Nelson and Ida Mae (Mrs. Charles) Mann, both of Muncie; two brothers, Blaine Privett, Frankfort, Ky., and Hubert Privett, Muncie; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are pending at Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel.

Services for Newton Privett, 85, 412 S. Hutchinson, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Parson Mortuary-Adams Chapel. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Mr. Privett died Saturday. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.
