Muncie – Betty J. Nelson, 90, passed away unexpectedly on March 3, 2013, at Golden Living Center.
Betty was born in Muncie on February 21, 1923, the daughter of Newton and Opal (Shores) Privett, and was a 1942 graduate of Muncie Central High School.
Mrs. Nelson worked for several years with Sudlow's Potato Chip Company before her retirement. She was a member of Memorial Drive Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her son, Gerald "Butch" Swain, (wife-Lorie), Muncie; two daughters, Susan Shepard, (husband-Charles), Terra Haute, and Betsy Gruetzmer, (husband-Jim), Houston, Texas; a sister Ida mae Mann, (husband-Charles), Muncie; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gerald Swain Sr.; her second husband, Kenneth Nelson; a step-son, Robert R. Swain; a step-daughter, Muriel Eastman; a brother, Leroy Privett; and a sister, Gladys Smith.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Parson Mortuary with Rev. Josh Huggett officiating. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery. Friends may call at Parson Mortuary from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, or one hour prior to time of service on Thursday.
