The daughter of Merit de Forest 1851-1892 of New York and Martha Janette Van Scooter of Indiana.

Laura Susan was the wife of Charles Wilson LeClear, the son of Levi LeClear and Rebecka Chaney. They were married 12 Feb 1886 in Ada, Barry, Michigan, and had the following children:

* The 1870 census lists Merrit living with his wife, Jennie, and daughter Susan, living in Milford, LaGrange, Indiana, and a 4 year old Ellen Peck born in Indiana is also listed. Merritt is a farm laborer.
* The 1880 census lists Merritt and Jannette with children Ella aged 14 and Susan aged 10 living in Bellevue, Eaton, Michigan. Merritt is listed as a laborer, Ella is now listed as a daughter.
* The 1900 census lists Charles, Laura with children Floyd, Roy, Don, Everett and Vera living in Convis.

Laura Susan and her husband both supposedly died from tuberculosis, Laura's death certificate states arteria sclerosis and chronic endocarditis.

Mrs. Laura Susanna LeClear, 63, passed away suddenly at 6:30 o'clock this morning at her home in Pennfield Township. Coroner Willard Putman was called on the case and learned that death was the result of a heart attack. There will be no inquest. Mrs. LeClear is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Vera Birches, Mrs. Velma Raymer and Miss Fern LeClair, all of this city; six sons, Floyd, of Assyria Center, Everett, of Battle Creek, and Donald, Frank, Carl and Richard, all of Pennfield township; three sisters, Mrs. Gary Cook, Mrs. George Shapley and Mrs. Iva Omick, all of Bellevue; a brother Edgar DeForrest, of Olivet; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Williams & Braden Funeral Home pending funeral arrangement, which have not yet been completed.

Laura was born Oct. 21, 1869 and married Charles LeClear in Ada, Mich., February 1886. She died Nov 3, 1932 at the age of 63 years. She was buried in the Reese Cemetery, near Battle Creek.
