Born 05 Feb 1864 in Napoleon Township, Henry, OH and died 02 Feb 1934 in Battle Creek, Calhoun, Michigan. Charles was the son of Levi LeClear and Rebecka Chaney, the husband of Laura Susan DeForest They were married 12 Feb 1886 in Ada, Barry, Michigan, and had the following children:

When Charles was living in a cabin that had a string latch he always left the string out at night. One morning Charles got up and by his fireplace was an Indian. The Indian quietly got up and left. A couple of days later there was a deer hanging in a tree outside the cabin. The Indian's way of saying thank you for a warm night sleep.
Uncle Archie (one of his grandsons) said Charles always traveled by train for distances. He moved to Battle Creek from Ada. He lived in Battle Creek North on NM78 3/4 mile on the east side of the road. Charles LeClear worked as a saw filer in the lumber camps. He lived his later years in a big tent in Penfield Battle Creek. He lived for a time with his son Floyd, Suzie lived with son Donald.
Charles died of Tuberculosis. Both Charles and Laura are buried in Reese Cemetery, Battle Creek, Calhoun, MI. According to his obituary he died at Calhoun County Hospital at 7:30 at night, and was survived by three daughters and five sons, and his brother Elgie LeClear and sister Florence Bradley.

Information from Florence LeClear Bradly in 1934. Levi and Rebecca were both born in Ohio and came to Michigan in an early day, when Charles was a babe. Levi bought 80 acres of all timber and Rebecca helped to clear the land. They made the babe a cradle from a hollow log. Rebecca's father was Nathan Chaney. Levi and Rebecca's children were: Charles, George, Ira, Florence and Elgie. Charles was born February 5, 1864 and died February 2, 1934. Buried in Reese.

The 1900 Michigan census lists the family living in Convis, Calhoun County, Charles and Laura with children Floyd, Roy, Don, Everett and Vera. Charles parents were born in Ohio, Laura's were born in New York.
Michigan's census of 1910 lists the family living in a rented home in Penfield, Calhoun County, Charles, Laura, children Don, Everett, Vera, Velma, Fern, Frank and Carl. Charles was a laborer.
