Vera Madge LeClear Bartsch was the fifth of nine children and eldest daughter of three daughters born to Charles Wilson LeClear of Ohio and Laura Susan DeForest of New York. The family lived in rural Michigan where her father was a laborer, and providing a night's rests to the local Indians was not uncommon. Charles hand carved the cradle Vera slept in as an infant.
Vera firstly married Cornelius North at Charlotte, Eaton County 16 April 1915.
Vera would marry again to Frederick O Bartsch on 03 October of 1917 in Muskegon, and have the following children; Lillian Pearl, Earl, Elmer James, Donna J Keyes, Harold McKinley Bartsch. Her eldest brother, Raymond, would name two of his daughters after Lillian Pearl.

* Michigan's 1920 census lists Fred, Vera and son Fred living in a rented home on Wallen Avenue, Grand Rapids. Frederick is a laborer in the steam railroad industry born in Illinois. His parents were born in the Netherlands.
* The 1940 census lists Vera and Fred, with children Earl, Lillian and Donna, living in Marshall, Calhoun County. Fred is a government worker who completed high school, Vera completed 8th grade. Fred only worked six weeks in 1939.
*The 1950 census lists Fred, Vera and Donna living in Battle Creek. Fred works in a private, non-farming industry.
