Floyd Smith Doughty (pronounced Dow-tee, NOT Doty), son of Frank Nathan Doughty and Amanda Frances Smith. As a young man, Floyd worked for his father at the Doughty Ice Cream Company in Providence, Rhode Island. Floyd married thrice: first: Althea Carr in Taunton, Massachusetts, August 31, 1905. They had one child, a son, Ralph, born August 8, 1908, and died at age 8 months. Althea died, September 15, 1908, in Providence, likely a consequence of childbirth. In 1912, Floyd spent some time in Kansas, but decided Rhode Island was his true home. Floyd married second, French Canadian beauty, Anna Grignon (pronounced Green) June 10, 1913 in Providence. In 1915, Floyd helped his brother-in-law, Mederic Grignon, become a naturalized citizen of the United States. In 1926, Anna died; they didn't have children. By 1930, Floyd had left the Doughty Ice Cream Company to manage the Doughty-owned summer hotel in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. Here, he met and married his third wife, Annie St. John LeMay, October 10, 1930. They had three children: Althea; Floyd Jr.; and Arthur. Annie survived the death of Floyd who died in Oak Bluffs in 1935.
