Frank Nathan Doughty owned and operated the Doughty Ice Cream Company in Providence, Rhode Island from about 1889 to about 1924, taking over the business from his father, William Henry Doughty, who started the ice cream company about 1886. Family legend says Frank "invented" coffee ice cream. Frank, and his first wife Amanda, also owned and operated the Pilgrim House Hotel in Old Orchard Beach, Maine and the Providence House Hotel in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. After retiring from the ice cream and hotel business, Frank became ordained as a Christian Advent Minister. After Frank's wife Amanda died, Frank married a second wife, Minnie Grace (nee Hodsdon) (Small) (Piper) (Hasey); April 22, 1940, at Kingston, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Minnie had three husbands before Frank; Minnie and Frank had no children together.
