His gravestone reads: "HERE LYETH THE BODY OF M. THOMAS WHEELER, WHO DIED MARCH 4, 1686 AGED 84 YEARS". Thomas and Mary Wheeler moved to Stonington, Connecticut from Lynn Massachusetts in 1667. In 1673 Thomas was nominated and elected one of the Stonington representatives to the Connecticut General Court. He was one of the nine organizers of the First Congregational Church of Stonington (June 3, 1674).
