Mrs. Katherine Vahle, whose lineal descendents number 133 dies at 315am today July 30, 1959 at the home of her son, Henry, 1419 Doerr Ave., at the age of 96. She was the widow of Henry F. Vahle. She had been a patient in St. Anthony's Hospital for three weeks and had returned home only one day prior to her death.

A resident of the Alton area since the age of 22. Mrs. Vahle has resided in Alton for the past 71 years and previous to that had been at Elsah and other nearby towns.

Mrs. Vahle was born in Brown County, Ohio, April 21, 1863 was married in Alton, November 19, 1884 to Henry F. Vahle who died in 1949.

Active until about two years ago, Mrs. Vahle had enjoyed visits from her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and had participated in the anuual family reunions even after being confined to a wheelchair.

Surviving are eight children, Mrs. Herman Penning, Mrs. Mary Doerr, Mrs. George Yost, Mrs. Elizabeth Doerr, Mrs. J.E. Lewis, Mrs. Kenneth Curry, Henry and William Vahle, all of Alton; 28 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren. A son Fred died in 1937.
