Phillip Kohlmiller Dies at Age of 76
Phillip Kohlmiller, 76 died Tuesday at 11:10pm at his residence, 1401 Doerr Avenue, after an illness that had confined him in his bed for three weeks. He has been in failing health for several months.
He was born in Brown County, OH, March 18, 1860, and had lived in Alton for the last years. He spent his youth in Jersey County, near Elsah. After reaching manhood he moved to the "American bottoms" where he lived until a few years ago when he moved to the Doerr Avenue residence where his death occurred.
He was married five years ago at the age of 71, to Miss Elizabeth Doerr, who survives him.
His widow, Mrs. Elizabeth (Schroeder) (Doerr) Kohlmiller, and two brothers, Jacob of Alton and Fred of Mitchell, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Vahle of Alton survive. He also leaves 22 nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2pm from the Streeper funeral home. Officiating will be Rev O.W. Heggemeier of the Evangelical Church, burial will be in City Cemetery. The body may be seen at the funeral home after 5 pm, Thursday.
Six nephews will serve as pallbearers Saturday at his funeral. They are Herman Penning, George Yost, John Doerr, Albert Doerr, John Elmer Lewis, and Kenneth Curry.
