Doris was born on Jan. 24, 1912, in Rushville, Ind., to Charles and Anna (McColly) Burton. Doris married Willis "Bill" Raabe on Dec. 10, 1943, in Rockford. He passed away in 1993.
Doris grew up on a farm in rural Jasper County, Ill. She graduated from Newton High School in 1930.
She then moved to Decatur to work, then to Chicago to work as a bookkeeper.
She met Bill in Kewanee, where she worked in the employment office. They moved to Walnut, where she lived for 60 years and had many close friends.
Doris and Bill were partners in Raabe Hardware in Walnut for 21 years and in his real estate business for 15 years.
She loved to garden, can vegetables, sew and cook for her family.
Doris was a member of the Walnut United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed, in her later years, meeting her friends at the Walnut Cafe for lunch on Fridays.
She is survived by her son, Burton; daughter-in-law, Lisa; three grandsons, Isaac, Solomon and Amos; and three great-grandchildren, Ruby and Willis Raabe of Peoria and Sage Cramer of Bartonville. Avanelle Gosnell, a sister, survives in Newton, Ill. Many nieces and nephews also survive and were important to her.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Noah Raabe; and eight siblings.
Cremation rites were accorded. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut, with the Rev. Gale T. Brandner, pastor of Walnut United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Manlius Cemetery.
