Louis Boyles Perkins AKA Lewis Boyles Perkins, was born on June 2, 1825 in Cattaraugus County, New York. He was the son of Chester Boyles Perkins and Salinda Chase Perkins. His father, Chester, was born in Lanesborough, Massachusetts and his mother, Salinda, came from Manthalo, Rutland, Vermont. Louis descends from a long line of royalty through his mother's side of the family. Louis' siblings include Theresa Jane, Henry Jackson, Minerva, Diantha, Mary A, and Oregon R.

Louis married Harriet Ford (in 1845) who was born April 2, 1818 in Cattaraugus County, New York. Harriet died Nov. 17, 1872. They had nine children. They include: Samuel Walter, Abigail Salinda, Thurza Jane, Mariah, Lewis, Harriet Alma, Thomas Jefferson, Jessie Russell and Mary. Harriet Ford Perkins passed away on Nov. 17, 1872. He remarried Martha Jane Harper in 1874.

Louis came to Wisconsin early in the fifties and settled in Dodge County. In 1856 he went up the Mississippi River and came across from LaCrosse to Clinton township in Vernon County and selected his home and then returned to Dodge County. The following year he returned with his family and settled in Clinton township. He was an important figure in the Cashton, WI area. His funeral sermon was preached at the Cashton Congregational church to a large crowd of friends and family. After which, his remains were taken to Bloomingdale for interment. Louis was an early settler of the area and had the friendship of all who knew him. He was 74 years, 1 month and 6 days at the time of his death.
