Emil J. Svoboda, 85, of 213-5th Ave., N.W., New Prague, died at Queen of Peace Hospital of Wednesday evening, May 13. Funeral services were held at the Church of St. Wenceslaus on Saturday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Dennis Dempsey offering the Mass of Christian Burial. James Dvorak and Patricia Dvorak carried the Offertory gifts, and Donald Dvorak was the lector.
Serving as pallbearers were William Dvorak, Paul Dvorak, Jr., John Dvorak, Jr., Gerald Dvorak, William Peterka, Jr., and John Masberg. Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation was at the Bruzek Funeral Home on Friday from 4 until 9 p.m.
Emil J. Svoboda was born in Wheatland Township, Rice Cemetery, on November 21, 1901. He was a son of John Svoboda, a native of Czechoslovakia, and Mrs Katherine Ziskovsky Svoboda. He attended Holy Trinity School at Veseli, New Prague High School and Mankato Commercial College. Emil Svoboda and Albina B. Dvorak were married in New Prague on May 24, 1927. The Svobodas farmed in Cedar Lake Township until 1929, when they moved to Faribault. About four years later they moved to New Prague. Mr. Svoboda was employed in pest control for International Milling Company for a number of years. He was a member of the New Prague Sportsmen's Club, and was one of the original founders of that organization. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Svoboda is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine Svoboda; by a brother, Louis J. Svoboda of New Prague; and by a sister, Mrs. Mary Barta of Spicer. Six brothers, John F., Jerry, Joseph, Charles, Edward and Albert Svoboda, are deceased.
