After a lingering illness, John Svoboda passed away at his home on Wednesday morning at four o’clock. He was born in Bohemia on May 1, 1865 and came to this country with his parents when he was about two years old. The family settled near New Prague where Mr. Svoboda was married to Catherine Ziskovsky. They settled near Veseli later moving to New Market where they lived on a farm for about eleven years.
Then they moved to Hopkins where they stayed until they moved to another farm at St. Patrick. Here they lived for 22 years, then moving to Lonsdale where they resided about six years. To this union ten children were born. Sons and daughters are Joe Svoboda, of billings, Montana; John Svoboda of Faribault; Charles of California; Jacky also of Montana; Mrs. Mary Barta of here; Emil Svoboda of Veseli and Ludvig Svoboda of St. Patrick. One son, Albert died while in service, just before going across to France. Edward died about seven years ago, and one daughter died in infancy.
Brothers and sisters of the deceased are Frank Svoboda, Joe Svoboda and Miss Catherine Cervenka. One brother died in infancy in Dakota seven years ago. His wife is among the bereaved.
Funeral services were held on Friday morning at ten o’clock. Rev. Albert Ziskovsky of Lake Elmo, brother of Mrs. Svoboda read the mass. He was assisted by Rev. Vaclav Jiracek of Le Center, Rev. Ziskovsky of St. Paul, nephew of Mrs. Svoboda, Rev. Jos. Bouska of Veseli and Rev. J. J. Tomek of here. Rev. Tomek read the services at the house and at the cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jos. Douda, Frank Svoboda, Joe Machacek, James Svoboda, Frank R. Machacek and Mike Mach.
Deceased was a kind father and a faithful member of the Catholic Church. He was well liked by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his relatives and friends.
