Dec. 11, 1917 to Dec. 9, 2004 Virgie a San Diego resident for 60 years, a "Renaissance Woman", she served in 3 wars by welding, riveting and finally frying chicken at Travis Air Force base for transport planes to Vietnam. She became a foster mother in her retirement years and made a home for over 100 adolescents for 15 years, as if that wasn't enough, she then opened her home to UCSD students and even hosted Doctors and Computer Professors from China. She is survived by her sons Don Shankles and Ron Shankles, and daughters Pat Bradshaw and Caleta McComas, also eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
