Clinton N. Ames, 83, of Titusville RD 5, died Friday evening at Franklin Region Medical Center. He was born Jan. 30, 1901, near Townville, son of Riley S and Clara Pettigrew Ames.

He worked for Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp., retiring in 1967, and for several years operated an auto repair business in Dempseytown, and a farm. He had been an avid hunter and fisherman. A member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, he was active in lay ministry work, and taught Sunday School. He was a member of IOOF 632, Dempseytown, Titusville F & AM Lodge of Perfection, and a charter member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.

He married Bertha Popeney June 9, 1918, and she survives, with two sons, Edward C. Ames of Oil City RD 1, and Charles J. Ames of Titusville RD 5; three daughters, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy A.) Deets and Helen J. Ames of Titusville RD 5, and Jean Ames of Erie; four sisters, Blanche Vincent of Franklin, Genevieve Dempsey and Grace Crawford of Guys Mills, and Hazel Dolecki of Oil City; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Deceased are two sons, Virgil and Donovan; a grandson; and a brother, Grant Ames.
